Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand — the great way-stations of the Silk Road for two thousand years. Turquoise-tiled madrasahs, sandstone caravanserais, and the great Registan Square. Cross Uzbekistan slowly, with time for tea houses, Sufi music, and a night under desert stars in a community-run yurt camp.
Day by Day
Day 1
Arrive Tashkent; Khast-Imam Complex (8th-century Quran); Chorsu Bazaar.
Day 2
Flight to Urgench; transfer to Khiva; sunset on the Ichan Kala walls.
Day 3
Khiva walking tour; wood-carving workshop with a master craftsman.
Day 4
Cross the Kyzylkum Desert to Bukhara.
Day 5
Bukhara
Po-i-Kalyan, Ark Fortress, Lyabi-Hauz; Sufi music dinner at Nadir Divan-Begi Madrasah.
Day 6
Drive to Nurata; overnight at a community-run yurt camp on Aydar Lake.
Day 7
Continue to Samarkand; Registan Square at night.
Day 8
Shahi-Zinda, Gur-Emir, Bibi-Khanym; Afrosiyob high-speed train to Tashkent.
Day 9
Departure.
